Common test is over, and most of you are getting back your result. Don't be too sad about your result and be more happy about your result! But either ways, please practice your trumpets! There are days that they band store will be open after school, some of you(Especially sec 1) can practice there. If need any help just ask. Ask. aSk. asK. ASK!

A gentle reminder to trumpeters, I have the right to appoint who taking which trumpet. If i appoint you this, means this, is final. From now onwards please do not ask me for another trumpet unless it really have problems. I will check the trumpet if there is any problems.

Today was the August 2nd Green CC's national day celebration with residents. There was really a big crowd. I would like to thank-you all for having a full attendence( trumpet section ). But there are certain things that we need to improve. Though we did not knew that when we first played was the actual one( thought that it is a rehearsal but is not ) I regretted about putting the very best at the start, so does everyone feels. You guys got to improve more, not only sec1 but the rest including me for this upcoming year-end concert. We could tell Ms Chong's dissapointment with us that even the National Anthem song we could not even play well. I have to really say this. National anthem is almost daily song we heard, yet melody part could be played wrongly. =( Seriously, if not going to improve, i will start to hold sectionals. So please be prepared if some of sectionals clashes your activity. Most probably on fridays after commontest.
I hope you guys would make an effort to come for sectionals to improve.

After today’s performance and what BS told me, I decided to write certain problems and how you people can improve.

Problem: Unable to pitch, Cannot slur properly
Solution: Just practice lip slurs, there’s a piece of paper Ms Chong gave us to practice, or you can practice the I recommend on page 4 too.

Problem: Not very nice tone
Solution: To solve this, you need air support which can be gained from practicing long and low notes. Don’t just play the note for like 4 counts, play for much longer.

Problem: Cannot count properly
Solution: For this, you just have to train by yourself to not rush and look at Ms Chong! Make sure you don’t remember the rhythm by heart or you’ll mess it up when Ms Chong accelerates or slow down.

Problem: Sight Read not fast enough
Solution: For this, just try your best and don’t give up. When Ms Chong gives us a new piece to try, don’t just wait until she tell us how to play. Try to count the part that you don’t know slowly when she’s teaching other section or before the song starts.

Problem: Fast tempo phrase that you can’t play
Solution: If the real tempo is too fast for you, train practicing at a slower tempo first before speeding up. Which means you have to practice that phrase a lot of time each time getting faster when you are ready. Practice with a metronome if you are unsure of the tempo.

You can ask if you need any help playing too. If you're free, you can practice in the band store after school. Most probably, either Elsen or Weijie will open the band store.
